About Me

Hello! It's me, Vani, the creator of SLP For Kids. Also pictured is my therapy dog, Poppy, an Aussie labradoodle born in 2017.

I have been a practising Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in Sydney, Australia since 2009. In that time I have worked with children, adolescents and adults to support their communication & mealtime skills in speech therapy. I provide training and in-services, mentor other SLPs and supervise student SLPs.

There are so many things I love about being a 'speechie': working with people, solving problems, using my creative brain, learning more information... & laminating. There. I've confessed it, and now you know this core truth about me. I know not everyone shares my passion for laminating.

The two things which led to me starting SLP For Kids to go hand in hand with my private practice, Summer Hill Speech, are:

  1. I love reading research related to Speech Pathology so much that I am now completing a Master of Philosophy. I also attend a lot of conferences and workshops. I constantly reinvent the wheel based on whatever new information I've learnt about best practice for Speech Pathology. Then I love to talk about it with all the SLPs I mentor, or am friends with... or am in the same Facebook groups as.
  2. I love creating resources, and I reinvent the wheel yet again by designing my own therapy materials. Because even if I have others that could do the job, they often don't feel "quite right" and I end up adapting them anyway. Plus, it's so satisfying when I print out a page of bright and beautiful pictures to use with my clients.

I am very excited to share the knowledge I've learnt, and the resources I have created, with other SLPs. If you have any feedback - praise, comments or questions! - please get in touch with me via email or social media.

The other things I love are books, dogs and coffee. You can talk to me about any of these, too :)

p.s. For the IPA-lovers in the house, my name is pronounced /vani/.
