Working on Grammar and Sentence Structure in Speech Pathology

Do you want to work on receptive and expressive morphology or syntax with preschool and school-age children?

This resource contains 84 (yes, 84!) high quality pictures depicting people and animals doing various tasks in different locations. The pictures are 4 per page, to make the resource more practical for printing and using.

This is an open-ended resource, with vibrant and diverse pictures to represent a range of people, places, actions and objects. I wanted the therapy resources we use to reflect the diversity of the communities and cultures Speech Language Pathologists work with.

There are so many activities you can use this resource for. Initially, I had these illustrations specifically created to target “Subject-Verb-Adverbial” structures in my clinic sessions, but they are equally useful for working on prepositions, pronouns, nouns, verbs, conjunctions, negation, categories, complex clauses, and so much more…!

You can use them in oral and/or written language tasks. You can even use this product as a ‘sentence level’ task for speech sound or stuttering therapy.

The pictures are great to give as concrete homework tasks to parents, or you can cut them up to use as a ’mystery picture’ puzzle while working on a completely different target – e.g. producing a specific speech sound.

Sample language goals to target:

  • Verbs
  • Prepositions
  • Present tense
  • Past tense
  • Future tense
  • Subject-Verb (SV) sentences
  • Subject-Verb-Adverbial (SVA) sentences
  • Negation
  • Complex sentence clauses
  • Sentence expansion (i.e. adding more detail through adjectives and adverbs)
  • Pronouns - including gender inclusive i.e. singular they/them
  • “is” copula
  • Developing syntax of AAC users

Feel free to use these pictures for any type of communication goals your students need. And be sure to tag me on social media @SummerHillSpeech #SummerHillSpeech #SLPforKids so I can see the great work you’re doing!

This printable, low-prep speech therapy resource can easily be adapted for telehealth speech therapy.
